Two declarations to start: 1st – this is an economics book, no lets expand on that…. it’s an economics book written by a Nobel Prize recipient…… and yes it reads as one. 2nd – I can’t help but think readers will align its greater world view with politics, which is fair. Yet my bigger evaluation of this long standing classic is how the hell this book is not shared in every economics class, I will never know.
Written in a WWII era in Europe, its astounding application then to now it becomes clear why Hayek won the Nobel. This is an enlightening book if you need an underpinning explanation of why the US has excelled to become a world power. It provides foundational views on free markets, taxation, capitalism, protectionism, if not hints of personal responsibility. A tough read, but a good one.
What caught my eye: Remember the Berlin Wall was not built to keep people from coming in!
